Abstract

Bullying cases often occur in the school environment, especially during adolescence. Family support, especially parents, can influence a child's identity which can increase his ability to adapt to a problem which can improve coping mechanisms in adolescents. This research aims to determine the relationship between family support and adolescent coping mechanisms in dealing with bullying incidents at SMP Negeri 10 Jember. This research uses a correlational design with a cross sectional approach which aims to determine the relationship between family support and adolescent coping mechanisms in dealing with bullying incidents at SMP Negeri 10 Jember with a sample size of 262 respondents obtained using random sampling techniques. The research results show that most families provide high support, 147 respondents and teenagers have adaptive coping mechanisms, namely 154 respondents. The statistical test used is Spearman rho. Based on the results of statistical tests, the p value = 0.001 < 0.05. There is a relationship between family support and teenagers' coping mechanisms in dealing with bullying incidents at SMP Negeri 10 Jember. The higher the family support, the more adaptive the teenagers' coping mechanisms will be in dealing with bullying incidents.
