Abstract

Anemia is a decrease in hemoglobin levels and the number of erythrocytes and hematocrit below 11 g/dL, consumption of fast food in adolescent girls can inhibit iron absorption and cause iron loss. This study aims to determine the relationship between instant food consumption patterns and the anemia status of adolescent girls in Sitiarjo Village, Malang Regency. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study was 30 adolescent girls in grades X and XI with the inclusion criteria of not consuming iron supplements for the past 2 weeks, not menstruating, and not suffering from infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and others. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Based on the results of the Chi-Square test, a p-value of 0.009 was obtained on the relationship between instant food consumption patterns and the anemia status of adolescent girls in Sitiarjo Village. There is a relationship between instant food consumption patterns and the anemia status of adolescent girls in Sitiarjo Village, Malang Regency. Health workers coordinate with school teachers to be able to visit schools to provide health education regarding ready-to-eat foods and can also conduct HB checks on female adolescent students so that the problem of anemia in adolescents can be resolved.
